More support needed for students with disability

AEU Rep Mark Kingsley presents what’s needed to lift learning for all students with disability.
Safer Class Sizes

Large class sizes are especially problematic when students are required to work with a range of potentially hazardous materials, or where the equipment and environment is potentially dangerous or limited.
Valuing our teachers

The Government needs to offer salary packages that are competitive with other states and territories to attract and retain the quality educators.
Principals with time to improve teaching and learning

Schools to be provided with enough staffing to enable Principals to dedicate more time to their core work of improving teaching and learning at their school.
More time for planning and preparation

Ensure teachers have adequate time for core tasks such as planning and preparation, communicating with families and developing learning plans.
Additional Professional Support Staff

Increase the number of professional support staff in schools, particularly psychologists, speech and language pathologists and social workers.
More Support Teachers

More Support Teachers who can work with classroom teachers to improve outcomes for students with disability or additional support needs.
More in-class support & professional support staff

More in-class support from Teacher Assistants and Educational Support Specialists to enable more one-on-one attention for every child.
